Studies on Earth Sciences at the University of Basel, Graduation with a Diploma thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Frey, title: "Petrographie und Geologie des Minugrates im hinteren Turtmanntal, VS"

1990-94
Ph.D. thesis (funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation). Supervision by Prof. M. Frey (University of Basel) and Dr. A. J. Hurford (UCL, London). title: "Incipient Metamorphism of the Glarus Alps: Petrology of the Taveyannaz Sandstone and Fission Track Dating". Graduation April, 1994, with "magna cum laude".

1994-97
Assistantship at the Institut für Mineralogie, Petrologie und Geochemie (IMPG) in Freiburg, Germany, collaboration with Prof. Dr. K. Bucher.

1997-98
1-year grant by the Swiss National Science Foundation for a stage at Yale University, title of the project: "Progressive low-temperature metamorphism of an accretionary wedge, Cenozoic Olympic Subduction Complex, western Washington State".

Time-temperature development of the rocks along and within the German/French upper Rhine graben (Ph.D. project, in collaboration with J. Keller and K. Link, Freiburg).

Reaction of an upper plate to varying subduction conditions as exemplified by FT dating in sediments of the deep sea trench at the Chile triple junction (PhD project, in collaboration with J. Behrmann and B. Heberer, Freiburg)

(U-Th)/He and FT dating along tunnel transsects through the European Alps: thermal and topographical evolution (in collaboration with C. Spiegel and W. Frisch Tübingen)

Thermal and denudation history of the European Alps based on FT dating (in collaboration with D. Seward, Zürich, H. Sinclair, A. Vernon, Edingburgh, Peter van der Beek, Grenoble).

Progressive low-grade metamorphism in the Olympic Subduction Complex and the adjacent San Juan Islands, Washington State (in collaboration mit M. Brandon, Yale, and S. Potel, Giessen).

The link between zircon fission track and radiation damage annealing: aneealing processes and geologic implications (in collaboration with T. Geisler-Wierwille, Münster).
